Ten survivors signed up for the 8-week face to face mindful photography course with Headway Gloucestershire course. Unfortunately, due the Covid 19 we had to close the course after week 6. All participants have been invited to share their work in this online exhibition. However, for many of them, this has been a very difficult time. Two have responded so far and their work is below. We hope to add more participants photographs over the coming weeks.

The first slide show documents the process of learning to see, having fun with colour and texture in Headway’s garden, and a very well received visit to Gloucester Cathedral. We had a lot of fun creatively connecting with each other through photography, sharing work, and inspiring and encouraging each other.

“Survivors tell us they have found an increased confidence over several weeks to share and discuss their ideas and art projects with others in a group.

Some have said they have an increased insight into the positive effect that photography, art and nature has on maintaining their own wellbeing and that previous photographic or other artistic passions have been reignited.

Others have said the course has provided them with new opportunities to express themselves.

Each week, we have observed the positive impact the Look Again group sessions have had increasing attendees general confidence and wellbeing. We have seen, and heard, how much the attendees have enjoyed the group and how valuable it has been to them.”

The Look Again project has reminded me that I used to love taking photographs and noticing the world around me. I’ve bought a camera and have been taking the time to notice the colour and beauty all around me. When I’m doing this I forget all my worries and I’m only interested in the pictures I am taking and the appreciation I have for what’s around me. It’s mindfulness – doing one thing at a time and being in that moment and enjoying it. This brings me peace, even in difficult times.
